We chose Apollo for its reputation (the vans are supposed to be quite new and well maintained) but were very disappointed in the service provided.
In Darwin, the beach towels we were lent were stinky, they had clearly not been washed.
An Exhaust warning light came on soon after we had begun our trip and a headlight was not working. We were told by the helpline, which we called many times, it was probably a faulty sensor, actually we discovered [in Broome] there was no "blue" in the appropriate tank, we were told to ignore it… but we spent a lot of time in garages, calling the hotline and worrying.
At some point we discovered that the cowl on the air-conditioning was missing. It was probably blown off by a road train. It took us several days to sort it with Apollo. As the cowl hadn't arrived when we went to the arranged place (on a Friday), plastic was tied on the air-*** on the roof (it took 15 minutes) and we were able to continue our trip, but without being able to use the heater of course. The south of Western Australia gets quite cold in winter (6°in Kalbari in the morning)…
This fix was charged later by Apollo $600! For an old used piece of plastic. On top of it, they charged us for overhead damage to the TV antenna ($187)
The key broke in the ignition… as we had paid extra for Extended roadside assistance program (24days@4 each ($96)) we were insured if we lost the key. When we returned the Camper van to Perth, the employee told us we would have to pay for the broken ignition key. We did not accept any responsibility in the incident as the key broke in the ignition, we did not misuse or drop it. The van had clocked more than 150000 km and there were many other keys and key rings hanging off the ignition key.
Apollo charged us $600 to replace the mechanical part of the key!
On top of all this, Apollo withdrew money from our credit card without our consent!
In conclusion: never again with these thieves! Don’t make the same mistake as we did!
